A world first: allmineral premieres dry method to process pumice stone
allmineral has once again underscored its leading role in jigging technology, this time in the Turkish province of Nevsehir. As a world first, an MP-type allair® double jig is being used for the dry, eco-friendly processing of pumice stone into ultra-pure products. In doing so, allmineral is making a significant contribution to the optimum use of our natural resources while ensuring a consistently high product quality.
At the heart of the processing plant is the MP-type allair® jig, which went into operation in June 2017. The high-performance pneumatic jig is superior both economically and ecologically, separating up to 60 tonnes an hour of natural pumice admixed with contaminants such as basalt, lava and slate.
On allair® jigs, the air required as a pulsating medium for the separation is controlled by a pulsation valve. The pulsating upstream of air loosens the material layer in a way similar to that of a fluidised bed. During this process the grains are sorted according to their density.
On the MP-type allair® double jig the combination of residual energy (air pressure and volume) from the lower deck is used with an additional air flow from the main fan (via a bypass) to stratify the material on the upper deck. What’s more, even though it has twice the capacity, the amount of space required to install the equipment remains the same.
The plant owner uses the refined pumice stone with grain sizes ranging from 5 mm to 30 mm as aggregate to manufacture fire-resistant lightweight concrete roof tiles with a superlative life-cycle assessment for the building construction industry. The volcanic rock ensures a low weight by volume; it also gives the structural elements outstanding insulating properties.
More than 80 allair® jigs are now in operation worldwide, making a significant contribution to an environmentally friendly processing of our raw materials all over the globe.
