Crusher and Screening Plant Underground – HAZEMAG Delivers a Milestone Project
With the commissioning of a new crusher and screening plant underground, HAZEMAG sets a new benchmark in mineral processing technology. The plant is designed for processing material from drift rehabilitation and was installed at a depth of around 1,100 meters.
This project report shows how HAZEMAG successfully implemented a high-performance crusher and screening plant under extreme conditions through holistic plant engineering, robust machine concepts, and precise project execution. Discover how complex technical challenges were translated into reliable, long-term solutions.
Underground infrastructure projects place the highest demands on technology, planning, and execution. Limited space, complex logistics, and strict safety requirements make plant construction underground a particularly demanding task.
How does the underground crusher and screening plant work?
This underground crusher and screening plant was designed for the safe and continuous processing of drift rehabilitation material. The objective was to ensure reliable and uninterrupted processing of heterogeneous material under challenging underground conditions.
The feed material consists of oolitic iron ore, limestone, clay, and marl. In addition, small amounts of steel and iron are present. Besides the demanding material composition, the installation depth, restricted transport routes, and high requirements regarding scheduling and safety represented major challenges.
Technical solution through modern plant engineering
HAZEMAG was responsible for the complete project implementation. The scope of supply included engineering, delivery of HAZEMAG equipment as well as the integration of partner-supplied components such as screens, belt conveyors, and an overband magnet. In addition, the project covered electrical equipment, control systems, steel construction, installation, and commissioning of the plant.
Plant concept with HPI-H 1010 impact crusher
At the core of the crusher and screening plant is the HPI-H 1010 impact crusher. The plant is complemented by an HRS 1011 roller grizzly for pre-screening and an HCF 1000 chain conveyor for material transport.
The screening unit and conveying equipment were specifically designed to handle varying material properties and to ensure reliable operation in permanent underground service.
Performance Data
The plant is designed for a nominal throughput of 50 tonnes per hour. Peak loads of up to 200 tonnes per hour are possible. This design ensures stable operation even under fluctuating operating conditions.
Installation and commissioning underground
Installation was carried out entirely underground. Despite the challenging conditions, cold commissioning was successfully completed around three weeks ahead of schedule. This marked a key milestone in the overall project timeline.
What is the added value of the plant for underground mineral processing?
With the new crusher and screening plant, the operator benefits from a robust and high-performance solution for underground material processing.
The customer gains high plant availability, predictable operating processes, and a system specifically designed for long-term use in critical infrastructure. Early commissioning further increased planning reliability throughout the project.
Plant engineering for crusher and screening plants from a single source
The project highlights the strength of a holistic plant engineering approach. HAZEMAG not only supplied its own machines but also coordinated and integrated equipment from subcontractors on behalf of the customer.
By closely integrating engineering, installation, and commissioning, a fully integrated processing solution from a single source was created. This approach minimizes interfaces, reduces project risks, and increases operational reliability.
